What happens when you take two friends, a couple of drinks, and mix them all together with classic television? You get A Very Special Podcast. Join hosts Patrick M. Dunn and Kat Halstead as they sip their wine and guide you on their nostalgic pop culture journey filled with ridiculous childhood tales and wild young adult adventures.
It’s another Halloween edition of A Very Special Podcast and this week Patrick and Kat decided to watch the animated Walt Disney Classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow! This was a segment included in the packaged film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, released in 1949 and narrated by the wonderful Bing Crosby. It is the eleventh film in the Walt Disney Animated Film Canon and the final packaged film until 1977, when The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was released.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow tells the story of Ichabod Crane, a lanky, new headmaster in the village of Sleepy Hollow. Despite his odd appearance, Ichabod turns out to be quite the ladies man and draws the attention of local hottie, Katrina Van Tessel. This strange love connection irks local bully, Brom Bones, and he decides to make Ichabod’s life a living nightmare.
Well, let’s just say things don’t end up too well for Ichabod, because he manages to have a run-in with the local ghost, The Headless Horseman. Was Ichabod Crane murdered by Brom Bones posing as The Headless Horseman? Or, is the Headless Horseman actually real? Or, is there a deeper conspiracy going in Sleepy Hollow?
